Founded in 1964 by the communist party, the Moldova technical university is the only university in the country specialized in engineering. The university was first named the polytechnic university of Chisinau and consisted of 5 faculties in different fields of engineering. Since it was the only university operating in the field of engineering, it has played a crucial role in the development of Moldovan industry after its independence from the USSR. The university has educated and produced more than 120000 workers for the countries industry.

The university is located at the historical capital of the country, Chisinau. The city is located at the heart of Moldova and has tens of historical and beautiful places that people can enjoy. In this city, you can see modern buildings, historical places and Soviet-style architecture and urban design all at once. The main campus of the university is located at downtown Chisinau, in walking distance from the Cathedral of Christ’s nativity and Stephen the great monument. The location of the campus makes transporting to the university quite easy for students.

Today, there are 9 faculties at this university, with about 10000 students studying in various fields of engineering. The university has employed around 800 professors and researchers in these 9 faculties. Advantages

The university is part of the Bologna contract and designs courses according to the principles of this agreement. Based on the Bologna contract, the university offers courses in 3 levels, Bachelor’s level, Master’s level and Doctorate level. Length of programs at each level may vary according to the faculty and the department that offers the program.

The university has one of the most equipped and modern campuses all around Moldova. There are several academic blocks in which the education and research takes place, the dormitories, where students spend most of their time during the programs and the sports and leisure facilities that students can use in their free time. All of these facilities are located inside the main campus of the university and can be reached by students pretty conveniently.

Student life

The technical university of Moldova is packed with facilities and equipment designed for a comfortable student life. The campus of the university may be one of the most complete educational complexes all over the Europe. the university has a separate village dedicated to cultural activities and events. The Condrita village has been designed for protecting the culture and historical traditions of Moldova. Moldova is one of the historical countries in Europe and has a long history and great cultural traditions. The university takes culture very seriously and aims at protecting the historic culture of Moldova and passing it to the next generation.

There are also several sports blocks inside the campus with various sports centers. Students not only can use these facilities in their free time, but also can join one of the many teams in the university and compete in a professional level. Football, basketball, volleyball and track and field are among the most emphasized sports in this university. Other than intra-university competitions among students and teachers, university teams take part and compete in various international competitions specially in Baltics and Russia. Every student with any type of interest can find a way to do some sports activities that he or she likes.

The university offers various types of dormitories for its students. In general, the dormitories consist of modern equipment such as comfortable beds, clean and new wardrobes, tables, and some other amenities. There are kitchens at every floor, either one or two per floor (some buildings have 1 in each floor, some have 2). There are also lounges for every 2 or 3 rooms and there are usually 2 to 4 beds at every room.

The technical university of Moldova is one of the greatest universities in this country and has always been mentioned as one of the top universities of the country in every ranking. In the QS world university ranking, this university has been ranked among the top 300 emerging European universities. The webometrics website has ranked this university the 2nd best university in Moldova and 3173rd best one in the world. The university has been ranked the 2nd best university in Moldova by the edurank website too. The same website placed TUM at the 3818th place on the list of worlds best universities.

Faculty of power and electrical engineering:

The Electrical engineering faculty of the Moldovan technical university is one of the best faculties of the university which put a lot of emphasis on research and practical education. The faculty is first in university in the number of publications annually. The faculty is equipped with the best facilities for research too. One of the advantages of the faculty is the fact that all the graduates have the chance to be part-time teachers at this faculty after graduation.

Faculty of mechanical engineering and transport:

This faculty consists of 8 departments. It is a research-oriented faculty and all the facilities for it have been prepared already. There are 11 different scientific centers in this faculty, each of them active in a special area of mechanical engineering. The faculty offers great and high-quality courses with European standards.

Faculty of computers:

This faculty is one of the most important faculties of this university and the republic of Moldova. The faculty educated the computer engineers of Moldovan industry and plays a crucial role in its development. The faculty consists of 4 departments and several research centers and offers high-quality and research-based courses to its perspective students.
